“After years of having the neighbors’ cats ‘adopt’ our family for extra cuddles and treats, we moved into our own home in the country,” Melissa explains. “With three kids who were struggling emotionally following the move, we decided it was time to get our own cat.

“After looking at all of Furry Friends’ felines needing homes, I found a posting for Misty, Rory and Bagheera. They were being fostered together and were bonded. We had meant to get only one cat, but since our kids don’t like sharing with each other, it seemed fate led us to these three kitties when we needed them most.

“The first meeting went well for two of the three. Misty and Bagheera were very curious and friendly, but Rory spent the hour hiding in the corner and growling. The kids were in love and ready to take Misty and Bagheera home. I didn’t want to split up the trio, took a leap of faith that things would work out, and adopted all three.

“The first week was rough. Rory wouldn’t stop growling and hissing, and Misty and Bagheera wouldn’t come near us, but those days are LONG GONE. Rory developed into the sweetest, most cuddly guy. He loves to hang out with me when I’m making dinner and we have long, chattering conversations about life. His favorite things to do are play with rings cut from paper towel tubes, chase laser pointer lights, and play in paper bags. He loves being around us and ensures that our showers are ‘closely supervised.’

“Bagheera (also called Mr. B) is our Olympian. He comes running when he hears the sound of food (feline and human), jumps up on all of the high places in the house, and keeps the windowsills company (he especially likes backyard bird watching). He enjoys ‘helping’ us do things on the computer and work on puzzles. When you scratch his chin, he makes chomping sounds with his mouth and leans in for more. He’s also very thoughtful, making certain that we don’t get lost or scared when we use the restroom — whether it’s forcing his way in to stay with you or sticking his paws under the door.

“Misty (Misty Moo/Misty Moodle/Moo Moo) the smallest one, is ever so feisty with her bonded brothers and gives them a run for their money in the play-fighting department! She likes prancing around with (non-toxic) plant leaves she has successfully stalked and hunted, and presents them to us as gifts when we wake up in the morning or come home from work. Her purr sounds like a motorboat engine and she dazzles everyone she meets with her adorable polydactyl ‘mittens.’

“Bagheera and Rory LOVE watching the fish swimming in the fish tank and are absolutely fascinated by the crickets we keep for Geoffrey the gecko. Our wee three were the best addition to our family and we are so grateful to have found them!”
