Margarita began volunteering with Furry Friends in July 2023. Before that, she had supported us through monthly donations for about a year.

She discovered us shortly after moving to Vancouver when she brought a Bengal cat she had found in a parking lot to the shelter. She loved how friendly everyone was, how well maintained the shelter was, and decided that she would volunteer there some day.

Now she volunteers on Sunday mornings by deep cleaning the Medical room and continues supporting us with donations. She readily admits that being at the shelter is her favorite part of the week and that she would like to become more involved. She loves the community and loves spending time playing with the cats after she’s finished cleaning. She has three cats of her own — all rescued from terrible situations. And because cats have always played a big part in her life, she supports other shelters financially in her native country. Prior to volunteering with us, she volunteered at a non-profit organization supporting diverse immigrant women, and is highly supportive of women’s career development and the preservation of historic architecture.

Margarita works as a Senior Project Manager at a UI/UX design agency, managing the teams that design and develop web and mobile apps and websites. She’s also pursuing a Master of Studies in Law degree part-time focusing on digital law and privacy and cybersecurity, while her passion for photography has her not only creating elegant portraits but sometimes helping local bars and restaurants with both food styling and interior photography.
