Magnus and the Murphys: Furry Friends Fur-Ever Tail
“After unexpectedly losing our senior kitty last year, my husband Kevin and I were left heart-broken and with a sad emptiness in our home,” explains Jennifer. “We didn’t want to rush into adopting a new kitty, but we also missed having one as part of our family. We have always had a cat – we prefer adopting those who like being only children though. Then we spoil them!
“The search for our new family member began and we met with every single cat we could find. We spent weekends wandering around local shelters and evenings scouring adoption sites. We met many wonderful cats, but there was no spark. I declared that I was officially giving up, and that day, I saw the Furry Friends post for Jack Black. I read his description and said he sounded perfect. My husband asked his age and when I saw he was a senior kitty, our hearts dropped. I wanted a middle-aged one. But we decided to ‘take a look’ on our way to lunch since he was at PetSmart that day.
the tears flowed. He was the one and Kevin agreed. Jack Black became Magnus (aka Mister Man, the Marvelous Mister Magnus, Stinker Butt, etc.), and while he didn’t seem scared of his new surroundings, he was cautious around us. He wasn’t a big cuddler, but he liked being near us. He sat on a barstool watching us prepare food. He sat in his cardboard box that we brought home from the shelter and observed us from afar. Slowly but surely, he started cuddling in small doses on his terms, and then we knew things were turning around when he let loose and started his daily zoomies.
“Now, nine months after adopting him, he’s the happiest and silliest little guy in town. He loves to jump high up in the air to catch toys and he chases balls all over the house. He is extremely cuddly now, always ready to watch TV together and purr the night away. He doesn’t meow much. He mainly communications through stares that bore through your soul, reaching his paw out to request something and shoving his face into your hand to demand pets. He spends his days sleeping on his heating pads and beds (yes, he has many), watching us work, running around requesting treats, playing catch with us, observing the neighborhood from his window seat and being smothered in hugs and kisses. The retirement of dreams!
“Every day we’re thankful that Magnus has come into our lives. We needed him as much as he needed us. He is the sweetest, silliest little man, and we love him to the moon and back. In fact, everyone does. He is so sweet and inquisitive when anyone comes to our home, and they can’t help but love him. To quote my mom, ‘he is such a lovable little guy.’
“Thank you for taking good care of him while we searched far and wide trying to find our perfect little furr-ever buddy.”
