Scooter and Anthony Cubba: Furry Friends Fur-Ever Tail
“I adopted Scooter - originally named Scottie - last year,” says Anthony. “Although he was my third cat, I only have two now that my older cat passed away.
“I adopted Scooter because, while my senior cat was aging, he stopped playing with my younger orange tabby, Fridge. She was getting bored and needy, and so I started searching for a companion for her. Mesmerized by Scooter’s eyes and cute photos on the Furry Friends website, I was disappointed that they didn’t have a facility I could visit in order to meet him and ‘hang out’ with him, and so I put him out of my mind.
“Then, on my way to the Humane Society one day to meet some cats on my list, I spotted a Furry Friends adoption event sign! I immediately pulled in, asked if Scottie was there, and the volunteers lit up. I learned that he was terrified of being in public and that he had come from a cat-hoarding situation. To me, this meant two things: he was extremely social with other cats and had only ever lived in a single room. I wanted to give him a better life, took this as a sign, and because I knew he would love playing with Fridge, I brought him home that day.
“Originally thin as a rail, Scooter grew into a beefy boy who has boundless energy. Although it was a breeze introducing him to Fridge, she was nervous at first. It took awhile, but he wanted so much to engage with her that I couldn’t keep them apart for long! Now they play and chill out, do puzzles for treats together, and he occasionally kicks her off my lap for pets and cuddles.
“Once in awhile, I will wake up to Scooter sleeping in the bed, which is very sweet since, as much as he likes attention, he doesn’t snuggle for very long before he’s bounding off to jump into a box. Both kitties enjoy sleeping in the sunshine by the balcony. I have started to harness train Scooter because he’s extremely curious about the outside world. I’m so glad I got him!
