“What counts in life is not the mere fact that we have lived. It is what difference we have made to the lives of others.”

Chris Nash
Volunteer Leadership, Auction Lead
Meet Chris, a Maryland native who embarked on a West Coast adventure as a kid, living in California before settling in Oregon. This move led to a love affair with feline friends—so much so that she was eventually banned from her local animal shelter for bringing home too many cats! Despite her mom’s busy schedule, Chris always had a furry companion by her side, forging a deep bond with cats throughout her life.
In 2006, Chris moved to Vancouver and discovered Furry Friends in 2009. Her journey with fostering began when her neighbor introduced her to the organization after finding three stray kittens. Although she and her wife Jean “failed” at fostering by adopting Bitty (Itty-Bitty) and later Marley and Dory, Chris realized she could contribute more sustainably by becoming a shelter volunteer in 2018. Her role quickly evolved from volunteer to shift lead and, eventually, auction lead alongside Jenn Hutchman.
Chris finds immense joy in helping scared and sick cats recover and find their forever homes. It’s a fulfilling experience that makes her volunteering deeply rewarding. Her passion for helping animals mirrors her professional transition: after a 34-year career as a project manager for a commercial art and framing company, she started her own business as an artwork installer, making homes beautiful both inside and out.
Outside of work and volunteering, Chris enjoys life with her four indoor cats and one outdoor feline. She’s a dedicated gardener, organizer, and fixer-upper, always eager to spend time with friends and create cozy spaces. Whether she’s transforming a space or nurturing a stray kitten, Chris’s love for her community and her commitment to making a difference shine through in everything she does.
