Thank You Dr. Marie Maher of Tranquil Tabby Mobile Cat Vet

Dr. Maher attended UC Davis for her undergraduate degree and veterinary school, earning her Bachelor of Science in Animal Biology in 2012 and her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 2018. An Elite Fear-Free Certified professional, a FelineVMA Cat-Friendly veterinarian and a Certified Veterinary acupuncturist, she attended Chi University for both acupuncture and Tui-Na training, and started Tranquil Tabby Mobile Cat Vet in August of 2023.

“We provide in-home veterinary care to cats in Clark County, WA,” Marie explains. “We support compassionate cat parents who are feeling overwhelmed by stressful visits to the vet, and help them and their kitties feel safe, calm and secure in the comfort of their own home. By bringing feline veterinary medicine into the home -- from wellness and sick visits, chronic illness and medication management to acupuncture, behavior and hospice -- we eliminate the need for carriers, car rides and unfamiliar spaces. While there are some services we can’t provide, including x-rays, surgeries and emergencies, we offer most services of a brick-and-mortar clinic.

“Not only have many of our clients ‘sung the praises’ of Furry Friends, I’ve been interested in working with them since our clinic opened. I became more involved after we started caring for one of the sick kitties at their Halfway House, and from there, it was an obvious decision to continue supporting them. This year, we took it a step further and became a Gold Sponsor through the kindness and generosity of one of our clients who donates regularly to Furry Friends. I still care for some of their kitties and intend to begin fostering with them in the near future.

“My favorite part of being involved with the rescue is knowing how dedicated they are to ensuring their cats receive high quality care and are given a chance at happy and healthy lives with loving forever families. The facility itself is set up so nicely and the cats’ personalities really shine there!”

One of Marie’s proudest moments was caring for Rice A Roni, a younger kitty who was extremely ill after being found abandoned during a heat storm. She had multiple medical concerns and Marie was initially worried about her prospects. But thankfully, they helped the Furry Friends’ team guide her towards a full recovery and prepare her for adoption. Being quite fond of “Rice,” Marie was thrilled to see her improve and thrive.

“I’m a firm believer in giving back to our communities when we use our passions, talents and training to do so,” she says. “Supporting Furry Friends allows Tranquil Tabby to help more community cats in need, and I’m not only proud and grateful to be part of this organization but passionate about expanding access to quality veterinary care for more cats in our area and within the profession.”

Sharing her home with her kitties, a dog, pet geckos, spiders, frogs and many houseplants, Marie also shares that in her youth, she was a competitive figure skater and a circus aerialist through her 20’s. In California, she performed with a circus collective, founded an aerial arts school and produced an annual aerial arts show. These days, she’s a “community face painter, bird and squirrel enthusiast, very amateur juggler and all-around random skill collector.”
