Angela Reid Volunteer Spotlight
I started socializing at Furry Friends about five years ago. My father’s cat had passed away and I found a cat named Grayson on the Furry Friends’ website. When we came in to adopt him, I asked if they had any volunteer positions, and that’s how I got started. In fact, I started just as Jamie Garver began her tenure as President, allowing me to see all of the wonderful changes being made at FF.
When I began as a socializer, I wanted to adopt a new cat every week. I also quickly learned that I was not the “cat whisperer” and learned to read the signs on the doors! Example: one advising “kitty might bite if overstimulated.”
I work at a surgery center in Tigard as a surgery coordinator. With the drive, this doesn’t leave me a lot of time to volunteer. During COVID, I volunteered more, but now Sunday is the only day. I’m proud to say I’m a volunteer for Furry Friends, telling others how dedicated the staff and volunteers are, and how much time, love and dedication they put into the kitties.
In my spare time, I like to sew, read, do puzzles, go budget shopping and spend time with friends. Since I’m quite good at fixing things, I’ve been called the female MacGyver, but I give most of the credit to YouTube. I have a kitty of my own named Lily who’s about 14 years old. I refer to her as the “Princess” or “spoiled teen.” She’s very high strung and she’ll give you the stink eye if you’re too noisy or move too quickly. She likes her alone time but she LOVES naptime with me.
