Connie Roberts Volunteer Spotlight
“I’ve been a volunteer with Furry Friends for about 15 months,” Connie says. “I got involved when I visited a Furry Friends booth in Camas and learned all about volunteering.
“At the shelter, where I volunteer every Sunday morning with the best crew ever, I work in the blue and green rooms, and help take care of the kitties there, cleaning the rooms and so on. My favorite part of volunteering, besides my work crew, is seeing cats who have been at the facility for a long time finally get adopted: like Caspian, for example.
“Employed by AbbVie, a pharmaceutical company, I travel the Pacific North West as a nurse educator. My greatest challenge now is being able to volunteer at the shelter every Sunday since my work recently changed and I’ll be traveling more. But I’ll continue to come in as much as I possibly can.”
Connie’s passion is not only exploring the area in which she’s lived for seven years, and discovering how many trails there are to see but keeping them preserved and intact for the next generation.
The mother of four children, all grown now, and one granddaughter, Sofia, who just learned how to walk at the age of 11 months, Connie has a dog named Abby and a cat named Benny. “Abby,” she readily admits, “is a super dog and very fun to take for walks in the woods. Benny is the greatest cat in the world and a genuine superstar: perfect in every way!
“My favorite sport is swimming, and I usually swim three times a week with a local swim group. As for hobbies, I like to quilt and I’m teaching myself how to crochet.”
