Karin Ross: Volunteer Spotlight
“I have volunteered with Furry Friends for more than a year,” Karin says. “As to how I got involved? I happened to meet another volunteer when she stopped to say hello to my dog during one of our walks.
“Volunteering at the shelter for two hours a week, I’m a regular on the Monday evening ‘cat care’ crew. Occasionally, I’m called upon to drop off and pick up different kitties from the vet.
“My favorite part about volunteering is, not surprisingly, because I love cats. Unfortunately, I can’t have one of my own because my wonderfully silly and sweet old dog finds it impossible to contain her excitement around them. My biggest challenge, therefore, is not taking a cat home with me! At the shelter, I especially love the times when I can sit and quietly cuddle a cat while socializing with the other volunteers.
“My proudest moments as a volunteer: every time I see the adoption announcement of a kitty who has been at the shelter for a long time. Now that I’ve retired, I’m happy that I have the ability and time to improve the lives of cats and their people, even if only in a small way. I also volunteer at Nordic Northwest by working as a cashier at various fundraising events.”
