Natasha Siores: Volunteer Spotlight
“I’ve been volunteering with Furry Friends since 2009,” Natasha says. “I’m the shift lead for the Sunday night shift at the Halfway House. I started volunteering because I wanted to give back to the community in a way that involved caring and advocating for animals.
“I spend from 1.75 to 2.5 hours at the House each week. Shift leads help ensure that the tasks assigned to each shift are completed and that all of the kitties are accounted for and are receiving any medications they need. We also communicate with the leadership team about any issues with the kitties or with the supplies, and generally make certain that the House is fully equipped and running smoothly for that particular time of day.
“The cats are, without a doubt, the best part of volunteering. It’s so satisfying to see kitties who come to us either shy, very frightened or unsure of themselves emerge, after weeks of Furry Friends TLC, as sweet, friendly and confident cats ready to find their forever homes.
“We have three cats at home: two are a bonded pair adopted from a kitty rescue and our third came to us through the ‘cat distribution system.’ We found her under the hood of our truck, sitting on the battery!
“Outside of Furry Friends, I work at NW Natural Gas Company, where I’m Senior Manager of Regulatory Affairs. My hobbies include kayaking, paddle boarding and anything to do with music.”
