Tawnia Brown Volunteer Spotlight
I have volunteered with Furry Friends since February 2022.I had been searching online for no-kill cat shelters that I could make a donation to. I followed Furry Friends FB page, saw they were seeking volunteers and signed up. I used to volunteer every Tuesday, but since my work schedule has become more demanding, I’m now a volunteer substitute. (I work as a project manager for a fire alarm/low voltage company during the day and am a full-time cat mom at night).
What I love most is being able to take care of the cats and give them attention. I like to think of it as getting them ready for their new homes. Awhile back, there were two black cat siblings named Maxwell and Ruby. Maxwell was very shy and would hide on a high shelf. Whenever I was volunteering, I would coax him down to get pets and snuggles. Sometimes, he would even sit in my lap! It made me feel special.
As to why I give back? I often think about what would become of my cats if something happened to my husband and me, and they had to go to a shelter. (We are foster fails, and adopted three brothers named Randy, Sly and Trent). I would want them to be loved and cared for until they found a new home. This is what inspires and motivates me to give the best care to the cats at Furry Friends who are waiting for their new homes.
The issue I’m most passionate about revolves around cats: helping places that help cats (TNR), feeding homeless cats, caring for injured cats, and so on.
