Cheese and Rice and Bethany Burton: Furry Friends Fur-Ever Tail
“Cheese and Rice are my second and third cats,” says Bethany. “I adopted them with the names Cheese and Ricearoni, but Ricearoni commonly gets shortened to Rice.
“I felt that my late cat of 14 years, Trouble, was always a bit of a loner, so this time I wanted a bonded pair who could play with each other and keep each other occupied whenever I was out of the house. When I met them at Furry Friends, I was handed Rice first. She immediately hugged me and nuzzled into me and Cheese did the same. I saw how sweet and playful they were, and I just had to have them!
“They took a few months to adjust and grow into their full personalities. It’s been amazing to see their playful side emerge so completely. Because I live alone, having pets is a necessity for me. Cheese and Rice ensure that my house is never boring anymore. They are playful and wild and constantly begging for cuddles. I always have a soft kitty to curl up with if I need to at the end of a hard day.
“Although both cats love chasing the laser pointer, they’ll basically play with anything and everything. And they both LOVE cuddles, especially at night. Cheese has developed the habit of waiting until I’ve gotten into bed before he comes and cuddles right next to me. Then, to my surprise, halfway through the night, I’ll wake up and I’ll be cuddling Rice instead! But because they love the heated blanket I have on my bed, they sleep on either side of me or at the foot of the bed.
“Both Rice and Cheese have big cheeks, causing them to look either annoyed or angry, while making for some very funny pictures. The entire camera roll on my phone is filled with pictures of them, so much so, that I had to buy extra storage. I LOVE these babies, and they’re just so good. They’re always right by each other and right by me, which is what I needed after losing Trouble.
“I once heard that a cat comes into your life when your soul needs protection, and that rings so true for these two. They are precisely what my soul needed. There couldn’t have been a more perfect pair for me, and all of my friends are jealous of what perfect cats I have!”
