Thora and the Bergrens: Furry Friends Fur-Ever Tail

“My wife Danielle and I have cared for a lot of cats over the years, mainly strays we’ve rescued from our neighborhood, but this is the first time we’ve officially adopted one,” explains Dan. “Although her name was originally Jovi, we started calling her Josie, after my great grandmother. A week after adopting her, we gave her the name Thora because she made it through her first thunderstorm without the slightest fuss. Such a brave little kitten! Also, her big brother’s name is Loki, so it seemed fitting.

“After losing our 12-year-old grey tuxedo kitty, Jessie (Loki’s baby sister) to cancer in 2022, and our 15-year-old calico, Callie, due to an accidental injury last February, we decided that our lonely Loki needed a new companion. So we looked up Furry Friends to see if we could find a good match.

“There were four adorable siblings up for adoption, and we knew that we wanted one of them. Cat carrier in hand, we drove to PetSmart to meet them. They were all extremely friendly and playful. But as soon as Danielle picked up and held Thora to her face, she gave her a tiny lick on the nose. We both fell in love with her instantly. She was the one!

“After only a few days of adjustment, Thora became a precious member of our little family. Although Loki wasn’t thrilled at first to have a new kitty in his space, he gradually grew more and more comfortable with her. Now we sometimes find them snuggled up asleep together on top of their cat tree in the front window.

“Playtime is Thora’s second favorite time, after eating. She loves chasing and jumping after her toys, adores her big brother, and loves wrestling and chasing him around. She gives ‘kisses’ by request and still has the most adorable kitten meow at nine months of age. She’s mostly a daddy’s girl, but she’ll accept pets and love from both of us. While she’s not much of a cuddler, she loves being picked up and carried over the shoulder like a baby and having her belly rubbed.

“Some of her funniest habits are dunking her toys in her water bowl, hiding in her cat tunnel and waiting to ambush our feet as we walk past, and watching squirrels and birds on TV. She’s the most vocal, inquisitive, playful and energetic kitten we've ever known, and even when she gets a little too rambunctious, it’s impossible to be upset with her because she’s just too adorable.

“Sleeping is also one of Thora’s favorite activities, especially after her extended zoomie sessions. She takes several long naps a day on top of her cat tree or in our back window. At bedtime, she hops up on the bed to curl up and sleep between my knees or on the pillow above my head, while Loki snuggles between Danielle and me.

“Thora is absolutely the sweetest kitten and we’re so happy that she found her way into our lives. We love her so much!”
