Freyja and the Kielys : Furry Friends Fur-Ever Tail

“I lost my comfort animal, Aussie, early in November,” Annie explains. “He had suffered from several complicated medical issues the last few years, and we had to say goodbye at a time when I needed him most. Soon after, a fluffy boy at Furry Friends caught my eye. He looked a lot like Aussie, only larger, with blue eyes instead of orange. Since I volunteer at Furry Friends, I brought my husband and sister in to meet him.

“My husband was concerned because he was so large and didn’t connect with anyone but me. Not only that, we have another special needs cat at home who might be intimidated by him. As we were leaving, I remembered a sweet little girl, Becky, who had been cuddling up to other kitties, and went into the living room to see her. She jumped right into my arms as if she knew I was there for her! I passed her to my sister and then to my husband who agreed that she seemed pretty sweet. I came back later that day, adopted her, and changed her name to Freyja.

“Freyja is my third cat, my first adult cat adoption, and my first female. She spent several days in the bathroom before we slowly introduced her to our other cat, Indie. They quickly learned to like each other, and upon her release from confinement, she went from room to room familiarizing herself with and “claiming” our house as hers.

“A loving lap cat when she’s not playing, Freyja plays as hard as a kitten. She has a strong prey drive and goes in and out of the catio continuously, sometimes bringing back little earth worms or slugs to play with! She also loves fishing pole toys and scratcher posts and pouncing on her brother whenever he lets her. When she first arrived, she had a silent meow, but now she makes a tiny sound when she opens her mouth to ‘ask’ for food or for attention. She hums to herself when she rushes around the house, and it’s absolutely adorable. Although she spends a lot of time curled up in my lap, she’s an ‘equal opportunity cuddler’ and is friendly towards everyone here.

“Those of you who have lost a beloved pet know that you can never replace them, and I still break down in tears at memories of Aussie. But Freyja has brought so much youthful joy into our home, and I’m slowly healing from my loss. She is a furry, purry bundle of happiness.”
