River and Bear and the Freeman-Blooms : Furry Friends Fur-Ever Tail
“We have adopted two kitties from Furry Friends,” Sierra says.
“We adopted River (formerly Anthony) in July of 2023 because we had just moved into a new home and had wanted to get our daughter a kitten for quite some time. We already had one cat, Little Kitty, whom we had adopted sight unseen in 2020. And although she turned out to be a beautiful and loving middle-aged cat, she didn’t fulfill our daughter’s hopes of having her own baby kitten.
“When we brought River home as a surprise for her, he was not only immediately comfortable in our house, he was equally comfortable with the three of us and our two tiny dogs. And yet, as much as he tried with Little Kitty, she refused to have anything to do with him, and, sadly, it didn’t change over time.
“Last fall, one of my friends said they had ‘gotten another kitten for their kitten so their older cat could be left in peace and the kittens could be happy together.’ It seemed like a brilliant idea to me! After some research on my part confirmed that this was, in fact, an excellent idea, we seriously considered adding a kitten to our household.
“The moment we met Bear (formerly Elderberry), we knew he would make an ideal playmate for River, and we were right! Bear is silly and joyful, not shy in any way, and even better, he wanted to both play with and be nurtured by another cat. He and River became the best of friends immediately and can always be found playing and sleeping together throughout the house. River is more joyful and active again, and Little Kitty gets to nap in peace and watch them from high on her perch.
“As a bonus, Bear, whom we’ve nicknamed Buzz and Buzzy Bear, not only loves our two tiny dogs, he also loves playing with them. While I’m typing this, he’s purring loudly and trying to sit on my computer!”
