Joe Black and Tonya Lambeth: Furry Friends Fur-Ever Tail
“Although this is my second cat, it’s the first time I’ve adopted a senior,” Tonya says. “And while his original name was Joe, I now call him Joe Black.
“I chose him because at the shelter he was friendly and not at all shy. His quirky little tail, due to an injury earlier in his life, was constantly wagging in obvious friendliness. He ‘spoke’ to me with little meows, and hearing them, I knew that he would be coming home with me.
“Joe’s adjustment to my home was immediate. Despite the fact that I thought he needed a few days in a separate room, he didn’t agree! Appealingly curious, he insisted on coming out to explore more and more, and he never once hid under the bed or anywhere else.
“He’s an exceedingly friendly cat and enjoys making biscuits in my lap. And although he taunts my large senior dog (my dog is wary of Joe, but never attacks him), they co-exist well. Joe loves chasing anything that rolls or that can be twitched across the floor. His random biscuit making and lap naps, however, always come at a time when I should be moving around. But then I relent and readily agree to relax a bit longer with him. Probably better for my blood pressure!"
As for Joe Black’s preferred place to sleep at night? “He’s a cat,” laughs Tonya, “and chooses to sleep anywhere that’s comfortable and soft.”
