Ruby and the Walshes: Furry Friends Fur-Ever Tail
“Once we met Ruby at the shelter, we saw that she was a Maine Coon mix, a breed of cat we’ve had before and love,” exclaims an elated Marcie. “She was so beautiful and SO affectionate that we didn’t need to look any further.
“Her adjustment to living with us was one of the fastest ever! We kept her in a bedroom for about two hours before she wanted to come out and explore her new surroundings. She made herself happily at home within minutes. Ruby is very cuddly with me and with my son and daughter-in-law. She’s patient with our 1-year-old granddaughter, and she loves playing with our older male cat Rikki (song: ‘Rikki, Don’t Lose That Number’).
“Ruby and Rikki get along so much better than we had expected. Rikki is a very anxious cat, but he’s very sweet. He and Ruby chase each other around the house and play fight at times. Mostly, though, they relax together on a sofa or a bed -- not necessarily close to each other, but they’re not the least bit competitive. Ruby is the perfect companion cat for Rikki.
“Ruby, who’s particularly playful, loves all kinds of cat toys, and includes ballpoint pens among them. She especially enjoys playing with the crocheted cat toy that was included in our Furry Friends adoption bag, and not only loves making pens roll around and spin on the floor, she loves flipping them in the air!
“She’s definitely the most cuddly cat we’ve had in a long time. She hunkers down in my lap and won’t get up unless I physically pick her up to move her. Even then, she jumps back on my lap. Whenever she’s picked up, she puts her paws around my neck like a hug. And yet, as affectionate as she is, she’s equally comfortable chilling on her own or with Rikki.
“Some of Ruby’s cutest traits include her crazy fast zoomies where she runs at full speed from one end of the house to the other and back again. She’s charmingly chatty. She loves positioning herself between the shower liner and the shower curtain when I’m getting ready in the morning. She also loves watching the water whenever a toilet is flushed.
“At night, Ruby usually sleeps in my bed, beside my pillow.
“In short, we’re ever so happy to have found such a sweet and perfect companion cat at Furry Friends!”
