Squeaks and the Sidhoms: Furry Friends Fur-Ever Tail

“My husband and I have had cats our whole lives, but when we moved cross-country to Vancouver, we took a break from pets due to the trouble we had finding housing,” Clarissa explains.

“Squeaks was her original name, and our 6-year-old was adamant that we keep it. Because she’s very vocal, it actually fits, although we affectionately refer to her as 'Squawks' when she’s ‘talking back’ to us!

As to why the family chose her: “On our son’s birthday, we took the children to the Furry Friends Adoption Event at PetSmart. There were several kittens in a larger play area that allowed us to see that Squeaks’s personality was the perfect combination of playful and cuddly.

“While she was fearful for the first few days, she slowly began coming out around our children. Then, as soon as we placed a cat tower in front of the window, she began spending all of her time in the living room, cackling at the birds. Our 6-year-old says that the day we brought Squeaks home was the happiest day of his life! She has enriched our lives so much, and brings such joy and peace to our home.

“‘Hunting’ is her favorite pastime: whether that’s cackling at the birds through the window, pouncing on mouse-like toys and carrying them through the house or chasing a laser. She also loves having her chin and ears rubbed, and is absolutely obsessed with food. If she hears anyone get a plate or open a bag, she gallops from across the house to see what’s going on. Then she’ll sit in front of us during our entire meal and beg like a dog!

“And speaking of dogs, Squeaks likes to sleep sideways in the middle of our bed at night, somehow taking up as much space as a large dog!”
