Lucy and the Hammers: Furry Friends Fur-Ever Tail
“Lucy’s original name was Delorean,” says Megan. “We changed it to Lucille but we call her Lucy. Sometimes we call her ‘Scoops’ because she’s so easy to scoop up in your arms. And ‘Rumble Duchess’ because she has a mighty purr.
“She ran at us so quickly when we walked into the shelter that she actually ran between our legs and right out the door! My husband Arthur and I looked at each other and said, “So we’re getting her, right?” He left to sign the papers, leaving my sister and I to play with her for a few minutes, and there was never a doubt in our minds that this was our kitty.
“Lucy adjusted to our home quite quickly since she’s so happy and so social. She immediately wanted to be best friends with our other cat Louise, who’s calm and far more reserved, and who was thrown for a loop. However, within a few days, they started playing together and became more comfortable sharing a couch/bed for naps. Then, on Valentine’s Day, Louise groomed Lucy for the first time! We also invested in a Feliway diffuser, which I think was a game changer for Louise.
“Louise’s calm energy matches my husband’s and my peaceful energy quite well. Mixing in Lucy’s uninhibited silliness and happiness, however, has brought out Louise’s more playful side and given us additional ways to bond with both of our kitties.Lucy looooooooooves toys! Her favorites are little wormy wand toys, blankets, her papa’s feet, her mama’s necklace and her sister’s tail. She also loves being petted and cuddled. She’s a complete mooch. She curls up with us every night and stays there until breakfast. If she’s not playing, you can bet she’s on a lap!
“And she’s an extremely co-dependent kitty. We have a garage gym, and she won’t enter it unless Louise goes in first to pave the way. If Louise is getting pets, she wants pets too. If there’s a jingle of a toy, she’s in on the game. If we need to close a door, she’s meowing right on the other side. It’s so adorable and so pure.
“One of Lucy’s cutest habits is sticking her head under a blanket to look for a toy and then charging around the room underneath the blanket like a little alien. And because she tends to MEOW whenever I take a photo, many show her with her mouth wide open as though someone told a kid, “Smile and say ‘cheese’!”
