Thank You Samantha Borenheim
Known to those in the know as Bee Sam, Samantha Borenheim is a Master Hair Colorist and owner of Bee Sam Beauty Hair Salon whose highly anticipated doors opened in 2014 in downtown Vancouver, WA. A certified salon professional with a degree in Cosmetology, she also has teaching credentials, allowing her to teach hair, nails, technology and esthetics at Phagans School of Hair Design. Additionally, she’s Olaplex Certified, Malibu Certified and K18 Certified.
“Bee Sam Beauty Hair Salon became a Silver Sponsor on February 16, 2022,” explains Sam, “and I then volunteered for over a year at the Halfway House, from changing the litter to cleaning the bathroom. The reason I got involved with Furry Friends was because I love all things cat-related and wanted to help this amazing organization in any way I could. Being so passionate about cats and animal welfare in general, I believe that volunteering and an ongoing sponsorship allow me to make a direct, positive impact on kitties’ lives.
“I love giving back to the community,” Sam continues. “I had previously worked with such organizations as Bridge the Gap and the Oregon Food Bank serving Clark County and was searching for another one to support. Enter Furry Friends! There is a strong sense of fulfillment that comes from helping the kittens and cats at the shelter, and just knowing that I am making a difference in their lives is very rewarding.”
Sam’s biggest challenge, she readily admits, is not taking home all of the kitties. “But my husband and I did adopt Glitter the kitty through Furry Friends,” she says. “I call her ‘my little street fighter’ because she was found on the streets in a shipping container with her mother and siblings and was rescued when she was about 10 weeks old. Thanks to her foster mom Veronica who started a transformation that we were thrilled to complete, Glitter changed from a kitten who couldn’t be picked up to one who now enjoys being in my arms. We adopted another kitty named Sparkles from another shelter.
Amazed by the amount of love and care Furry Friends lavishes on every kitten and cat we save; Sam finds that supporting our efforts also spreads our message of compassion and responsibility towards kitties everywhere. She also hopes that by giving back the way she does will both promote responsible pet ownership and encourage others to consider adoption.
As for the issues Sam is most passionate about: “Making my clients feel beautiful at the salon and saving as many kitties as possible.”
Multi-talented Sam can make animal balloons, runway show headpieces and transform hair from jet-black to platinum. Her camera is filled with photos of her cats as well as with photos from the hair salon.
