Patience Liu Volunteer Spotlight
A retired teacher and housewife, I have volunteered as a foster with Furry Friends for 3 years.
Three years ago, my daughter brought home a senior cat she had adopted in college. When she moved out, her idea of giving that cat a happy home for its last years motivated me to become a foster. I started searching for shelters in need of fosters and Furry Friends was the first one that contacted me. Since then, I’ve fallen in love with every kitten and cat I’ve ever fostered.
My foster cats and kittens are members of my family, so I spend whatever time it takes to make them happy and grow healthy. It’s the kind of commitment and dedication I really crave and never want to stop. I also get a good and warm vibe from the entire Furry Friends team.
Because my parents and family are aging, I travel to Asia at least three months a year to visit them, and I’m sad if I have to leave before my foster kitties get adopted. My proudest moments, though, are receiving pictures of them being spoiled by their new loving families.
The reason I give back is because I believe strongly that love is mutual. The more you give, the more you receive. I used to volunteer at various libraries and community centers to teach about Chinese culture, and currently feel passionately about fiscal challenges.
And, on a “lighter note,” I love to dance and sing.
